Terms of use

1. The service

Luha Yini lets you learn Shikomori (alphabet, course, dictionary, conversion tools) and build, with its members, an open corpus of the language: voices, transcriptions, translations. The service is free.

2. Publisher and host

3. Access

Anyone can learn without an account. An account lets you contribute, keep your progress and take the certification tests. We do our best to keep the site available, without being able to guarantee it: maintenance, outages, changes.

4. Your account

• Give accurate information; one account per person.
• Keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what is done from your account.
• Under 15, a parent's consent is required.

5. Your contributions

What you guarantee

• It is your own voice, or that of a person who agreed to be recorded and published.
• You read the text shown, without adding private information (people's names, addresses, numbers).
• You have the right to publish what you send: no protected text or recording belonging to someone else.

The licence

You publish your recordings, transcriptions, translations and dictionary proposals under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC-BY-SA 4.0), credited to “Luha Yini and its contributors”. You remain the author of your contributions and may reuse them freely.

Anyone may download and reuse the corpus under the licence, including to train language tools such as speech recognition and speech synthesis.

Withdrawing a contribution

On request to luhayini@gmail.com, we remove it from the site and from future versions of the corpus. Copies already distributed remain covered by the licence.

6. Review and moderation

Every recording is listened to before publication by a certified member or a moderator, who marks it “Matches” or “To redo” with a reason. The publisher may refuse, hide or remove a contribution that breaks these terms or whose quality is insufficient.

The Reader and Transcriber levels are obtained through the certification tests. The Dialect referee level is granted by the publisher, who may withdraw it.

7. Fair use

It is forbidden:

• to record or publish someone's voice without their consent;
• to publish insulting, hateful, discriminatory or violent content, or content that breaks the law;
• to impersonate someone else;
• to cheat on the tests or the review (multiple accounts, collusion to approve one's own recordings);
• to disrupt the service: bots, mass uploads, intrusion attempts.

8. The site's content

The lessons, the dictionary and the tools are made for learning. They cite their sources and may contain mistakes: some words are marked “to check”. Report a mistake with “Propose a change” on the word's page.

Datasets are released gradually under a free licence, stated with each one. The Luha Yini name, its logo and the site's code are not covered by these licences, unless stated otherwise.

9. Liability

The service is free and provided as is. The publisher takes care over the accuracy of the content and the availability of the site without being able to guarantee them. The publisher is not responsible for how third parties use the corpus within its licence.

10. Suspension and termination

You may ask for your account to be deleted at any time, at luhayini@gmail.com. The publisher may suspend an account that breaks these terms, after a warning except in urgent cases.

11. Personal data

What we do with your data is described in the privacy policy.

12. Changes

Each version of these terms is dated. Any significant change will be announced on the site or by email; continuing to use the site means accepting it.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by Senegalese law, without depriving anyone of the protection granted by the law of their country. In case of disagreement, we will first seek an amicable solution.
